This package includes our Grande Staunton Chess Set in African Padauk and Boxwood matched with our Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Molded Chess Board. This eye-catching chess set in African padauk and boxwood is as colorful as it is elegant. The Grande is truly a grand chess set with a handsome Staunton design and massive pieces that are heavily weighted. The columns of the king, queen, and bishop are unusually thick while still keeping an elegant profile. The knights are the star of this chess set with a traditional Jaques-like style and finely carved detail including intricately carved eyes, ears, nostrils, teeth, and mane.

The king is 4" tall with a 1.875" wide base and features a traditional formee cross. The pieces are triple-weighted to produce a low-center of gravity and exceptional stability on the chess board. The pieces are padded with thick green baize for a nice cushion when picking up and moving or sliding across the chess board. The pieces are individually hand polished to beautiful luster.

African padauk is one of the most colorful of the exotic woods and is often referred to as blood rosewood. We designed our Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Chess Board specifically for these chess sets and they look spectacular together. The bird's-eye maple is gorgeous and its' rich golden color is perfect for contrasting with either the ebony or padauk. The black inlay border and molded-edge add an elegant touch to the board and enhances the colors of the padauk and bird's-eye maple even more.
