Kohinoor Staunton Chess Set in Red Sandalwood & Boxwood - 5" King . This beautiful chess set in colorful red sandalwood and boxwood is our newest addition to our Staunton by Design collection. The Kohinoor, like the famous diamond belonging to the British Crown Jewels, is truly a gem within the realm of the chess set world.

The Kohinoor is impressively large with knights that are nothing short of spectacular. Hand carved by some of the world's most talented craftsmen, these rearing stallions standing atop pedestals, are rendered to perfection with features and intricate detail that is simply remarkable. The other pieces are no less impressive and together with the knights, meld into a rare and special chess set.

The king is 5" tall with a wide base and heavy weighting. A traditional formee cross is used that is removable and can be easily replaced if every needed. The queen is equally large with a crown that curves gracefully outward from the column to 11 sharp points. The bishop is tall with a large miter that has a wide slot forms from rounded corners. The rook is proportionately stout and heavy with a shallow parapet and 6 clean cut crenels. The pawns are impressively large standing 2.875" tall and having oversized collars that measure over one inch in diameter.

The Kohinoor is not only a showpiece that will catch the eye of everyone, but with its traditional Staunton style, you will love playing with this set. The pieces are heavy and perfectly balanced and will make the game all that more enriching. We are limiting the Kohinoor to only 5 sets annually due to the labor intensive hand carving and costs.
